Are facials a regular part of your skincare routine? If not, here's why you should adjust your routine. A good facial deeply cleanses the skin, diminishes pore size, prevents breakouts, and increases blood flow, adding a natural glow to your skin. Facials are very important to those of us with oily skin, as they maintain the quality of our skin. I understand that professional facials may be a bit pricy, hence why I am proposing an at-home facial easy for anyone to administer.
Start by cleansing your face with an excess oil removing cleanser. I like to use Clean and Clear's Advantage Oil Absorbing Cream Cleanser. I rinse my face with warm water to open my pores, then massage this product into my skin for 30 seconds. If you prefer an all natural oil absorbing cleanser, mix 1/2 cup of oats and 1/2 cup of yogurt into a mixture and smooth over your face. Rinse your face with warm water again.
Next, you will steam your face by boiling a pot of water mixed with dried herbs, lavender, rosemary and thyme. Face steaming effectively opens pores and removes dirt and oil. This will soften your skin and allow the nutrients from the face mask/peel (which will be used in the next step) to deeply penetrate the skin. After bringing the mixture to a boil, remove it from the stove. Cover your head with a towel and hover over the water to allow the steam to penetrate your skin for 5-8 minutes. Do not place your face super close to the water that the steam burns.
Freeman Feeling Beautiful Facial Peel-Off Mask
Cucumber, Skin Silkening
You want to follow-up with a clarifying face mask. I absolutely love Freeman Feeling Beautiful beauty products. They are inexpensive, composed with natural ingredients and leave my skin feeling smooth and soft. The clay mask is my go-to mask when I feel my skin needs refreshing. Allow the mask to set for 15 minutes. Gently wash away the mask with cold water and pat dry. Below you will also find a homemade clay face mask that works equally well.
Next, use a toner. Toners are important as they tone, remove excess dirt and makeup, tighten, and close open pores. I use a mix of Clean & Clear's Essentials Deep Cleaning Toner and Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple Cider Vinegar is a natural astringent that helps minimize pores, deeply cleans, and protects the skin. It evens complexion and reduces breakouts, leaving you with beautifully smooth skin. I used to wash my face within 30 seconds of its application because I couldn't tolerate the smell (which defeats the purpose). I eventually learned the smell fades and stopped washing it off lol.
Lastly, moisturize. Select a light, water based moisturizer. Please do not fall victim to the myth that only dry skin needs to be moisturized. Yours does too.
