An erotic drama surrounding a wife's perilous addiction to sex, Sharon Leal and Boris Kodjoe star in the feature film adaptation of Zane's best selling novel, Addicted. The film follows a businesswoman with insatiable desires as she juggles a successful career, a loving marriage, and motherhood. Eventually her idyllic life ceases to satisfy her needs and she searches for sustenance elsewhere. She finds what she's looking for in two irresistibly beautiful men, Quinton and Corey (William Levy and Tyson Beckford, respectfully).
After viewing the trailer, I was eager to see this movie. We all know Zane's explicit style of writing; therefore, I was curious to know how that would be translated onto the big screen and tastefully. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this movie. The story line seemed to mimic films such as 2013's Temptation: Confessions of A Marriage Counselor and 2002's Unfaithful. Once you gaze past Kodjoe's bare buttocks, you realize the plotline has been played out and this film's presentation is just a day (or decade) late. I was hoping for a new flare in this genre; however it was rather predictable. I knew she would find sex elsewhere; I knew she'd ruin her marriage and career while neglecting her motherly responsibilities; I knew her love affair would eventually turn deadly; and I Knew her husband would save her. Complete snooze fest.
With its lusty scenes of forbidden behavior, I don't believe the film captured the essence and vicious nature of sex addiction. Had this movie been delivered under a different title, I'm not sure anyone would have guessed Zoe (Sharon Leal's character) had this addiction, let alone it stemmed from a traumatic childhood experience of rape. When her condition was revealed, it was a little too late and her use of it to justify her actions and save her marriage was unconvincing.
It was nice to see Sharon Leal take the driver's seat in a film as her performance was alluring and solid. Between her performance and the three steamy heartthrobs, my attention was divided and I made it through the film's entirety.
What did you think of the film!?
