Artist of the Week:
Teyana Taylor

Since her appearance on MTV's My Super Sweet Sixteen in 2007, I have had my eye on this lady. She has been in the spotlight for some time now and we have all been anxiously awaiting her debut record. I learned of the maturity of her sultry pipes back in 2013 when she would tease her fans with 15 seconds of song on her Instagram. She released her debut album on November 4, 2014, titled VII.

VII has been on replay since I returned from Mexico, a few days after its release. If you haven't heard it, let me be the first to tell you that Teyana showed out with this album. With her sultry voice laced over vintage R&B tracks drawing from the 90's, she has proven herself to be an R&B queen to be reckoned with. The album captures the direct essence of R&B and soul, evading the superficial rants of club banging tracks and pop infused R&B hits. With tracks like "Dreams" and "Request," the songstress reminds listeners of what music used to be like; smooth and seductive, eliciting that knockin' the boots type of vibe that filled the airways after midnight. It reminds me of the times when I was growing up and kids used to be stingy with their music like they were the only ones who could listen to it. We thrived off of being exclusive. This album brings me back there because a lot of people will sleep on this album; sad but true.

The G.O.O.D. Music singer is extremely talented. I love her airy vocals over "Sorry," "Request," and "Business." My favorite track is "Broken Hearted Girl," which you could listen to below. She can add successful singer to her already long list of accolades. Overall, Teyana's debut album is EVERYTHING. Please don't sleep on her!

How did you enjoy her album?
