This week's artist hails from the UK. At only 24-years-old, the homegrown UK singer-songwriter is on his way to redefining the way R&B/Soul looks, sounds, and feels. With his signature black frames and mohawk, Daley’s image already sets him apart from the rest. Growing up in Manchester, he developed his sound as a teen through bedroom recordings and performing on Britain’s underground urban stages.
He first sparked the attention of mainstream listeners while accompanying the Gorillaz on their 2010 chart hit, “Doncamatic.” A mutual friend introduced the group to his music at one of his many London shows. From there, he went on to release his first EP "Those Who Wait" in 2012, gaining him much viral success, especially since the EP was available for free download. Also in 2012, he released his second EP entitled, "Alone Together." This EP included his first single with Grammy nominee, Marsha Ambrosius, and gained him even more momentum/exposure within the US.
His latest project includes his debut album titled, "Days & Nights." According to critics, this album "balances the bright young star’s individual style and awe-worthy falsetto with illuminating vulnerability and substance." Days & Nights was released on February 11, 2013.
When I first heard this young man, I was in the car with my mother and his single "Alone Together" came on the radio. Instantly, I fell in love with the song and told my mother, "I didn't know Marsha Ambrosius had a new song out." Ladies and gentlemen, his vocals sound similar to a woman's vocals, but that is part of what makes singer Daley unique. It wasn't until about two weeks later, when I went looking for the video to the song (located below), that I realized he was a man. This sparked my curiosity and I wanted to hear more. His voice is soothing and easy on the ears. He has a certain...je ne sais quoi about him that attracts me to his music and leaves me wanting more. I do think an older crowd would appreciate him; people who enjoy listening to real R&B. If you guys have had the chance to listen, comment below and tell me what you think.
