7 day Challenges

This summer I will be taking a series of 7- day challenges to help myself build a habit of healthy eating. Some of them I may stick with and some I may not. I decided to take these challenges as a method to build and increase my will power, as well as educate myself about the poisons and toxins I consume unknowingly. I have been extremely lazy when it comes to making healthy eating choices and I want to change that. Eating unhealthily slows your fitness progress and effects your overall health. So, let's begin to make better choices. Below you will find a list of 7-day challenges I will be taking for the duration of the summer. I will let you guys know how it went!

No BREAD

June 11, 2014 - June 17, 2014.
A lot of us love to overindulge with bread. Have you ever realized that oftentimes when you eat bread, you want more? White bread is often high in calories and provides minimal nutritional value. It contributes to the rise and fall of your blood sugar which could lead you to crave more food. Consuming bread can stimulate overeating. I loooooove bread; therefore, this week will be most challenging. I'm hoping it won't be as devastating as I'm thinking, as it is only 7 days.

Results: Success

No Fried Foods

Fried Shrimp 3.jpg

June 20, 2014 - June 26, 2014.

Although I do not eat a ton of fried foods, I do like my share of fried chicken tenders and fried chicken wings from Buffalo Wild Wings and Wing Zone. Frying food adds unnecessary (empty) calories, fat grams, and robs food of their nutritional value. Most of these foods are prepared with unhealthy oils that contain trans fat. Fried foods do not break down in body properly; remaining in the kidneys, liver, intestines, prostate and colon for extended periods of time. Fried foods also clog your arteries, which could lead to Alzheimer's, stroke, heart attack and aneurysms.

Results: Failed. I ate bacon one morning.

No Pastries

June 27, 2014 - July 3, 2014.

I love cookies and donuts!!!! Don't challenge me to test my will power by offering me these delicious items during this week. That would be so disrespectful. Lol. I plan to not eat bread during this week as well. But, no pastries because THEY ARE FILLED WITH SUGAR. SUGAR = EMPTY CALORIES. SUGARS TURNS INTO FAT.

Results: Epic Failure. I ate bread but no pastries. And lost track of my days.

No fast food

July 5, 2014 - July 11, 2014.

It's all too easy to stop by a fast food restaurant and order a large hamburger with extra mayonnaise and a large fry. I do not eat fast food often but I do, like most Americans, enjoy my cheeseburgers, hot dogs and French fries. During this week, I will not leave the house hungry. That is when most of us are tempted to eat out. I will also pack my lunch and several healthy snacks just in case.
Fast food is high in fat and low in nutritional value. Some items are high in trans fat which raises LDL cholesterol. This can lead to a heart attack or cardiac arrest.

Results: Success

64 oz. of water daily
Eat two+ green vegetables daily
Sweat Every day

July 12, 2014 - July 18, 2014.

This is the week I am hoping to extend for the duration of the summer. I am doing all of these challenges to prepare myself for this week. I typically do not like to eat poorly when I work out. So, hopefully, this will be the beginning of a lifestyle change. We all know the benefits of drinking water, eating your vegetables and working out, there is no need for me to be repetitive.

Results: Currently failing and the week isn't over. My water intake is below 8 oz and I haven't touched anything green besides the lettuce on my hamburger. I worked out 4 days this week.

No pork

July 20, 2014 - July 26, 2014.

I love my share of bacon, sausage and ribs. But after researching how disgusting pigs are and how disgusting eating pigs can be, I may drag this challenge out for a while. Pigs contain toxins, worms, and latent diseases. Pig meat is high in cholesterol as well as saturated fat. Factory pigs are kept in terrible living conditions I don't want to mention. Come to think of it, slaughterhouses are cruel. It was easier consuming these foods when their living conditions were out of sight and out of mind. I think I may start this challenge sooner than expected. Please do your research on eating pork. I'm not advocating for you to stop but you should know what you are putting in your body. What looks good and tastes good, may not be good for you.

Results: I actually started this one early. I decided to stop eating pork on July 8, 2014 and am currently winning. Since then, I have eaten bake beans that had pork in them. I did not eat the bacon pieces but I still feel like I ate pork. I had to start over.

No dairy

dairy.jpg

July 27, 2014 - August 2, 2014.

Dairy products are hard to digest due to the pasteurization process which breaks down the enzymes needed to assist with digestion. Dairy products are mucous and acid-forming. If too much dairy is consumed, it throws the body's natural PH balance off, as well as contribute to respiratory disorders. Milk can contain pesticides consumed from the cow from their feed.

Results: Epic Failure
