"The world makes you something you're not - but you know inside what you are."
The above words were spoken by Phillipine model Geena Rocero at her TEDTalk last month. Rocero moved to the United States in 2001 and has been modeling for over a decade. She began her journey as a young boy in transgendered beauty pageants at the age of 15. She had sexual reassignment surgery at 19-years-old. She came out as transgendered on March 19, 2014, during her TEDtalk, after deciding she was finally ready to openly talk about her journey into womanhood.
American Apparel's 62-year-old model proves age is not a factor in the modeling industry. The lingerie model has been signed with American Apparel since 2011. For the past 15 years, American Apparel has featured young faced women in differing states of undress. To change it up a bit, they hired O'Shaughnessy after she was scouted in a New York restaurant. This was her first modeling gig and she fully embraced the experience. With her nonchalant attitude, the 62-year-old eagerly modeled lace undergarments using various seductive poses.
These two women are evidence of a great change in the modeling industry. The perception of beauty is evolving and I would like to see more agencies embrace these changes.
Would you buy what they are selling?
